Debbie Bzdyl | Zephyrus: God of the West Wind

Zephyrus is the first painting in my “Gods and Goddesses” series. Zephyrus - the gentlest of winds - is known as the beneficial bringer of spring.  To capture this sense of gentle wind, I used many undulating lines.  The splashes of metallic gold bring the promise of warmer days and the end of winter.

I’ve always been intrigued by the stories of the Greek gods and goddesses. These myths tell stories of an ancient culture where the lives of humans and deities were completely intertwined. Their gods offered a way of explaining events that were hard to understand. Depicting these deities using abstract compositions is my way of bringing the spirit of classical myth into the twenty-first century.
