Artist Bryce Speed's works use abundant color and mark making to suggest a rich atmosphere of depth and space, where new yet familiar worlds emerge. The works are representational and abstract elements to evoke a sense of transformation and movement within the picture plane. Likewise, these paintings suggest a current and future waterscape controlled by imagination but effected by climate change and a warming planet.

In a Vivid Light will showcase new oil paintings of Bowland’s vibrantly colorful, thickly-textured landscapes. Bowland paints directly from the landscape, known in French as plein air or “open air” painting. Color is heightened and exaggerated; loose, energetic brushstrokes create bold, expressionistic interpretations of nature.
